Library Journal und Gale haben die Queens Library zur „2009 Library of the Year“ gewählt. Es ist das erste Mal, dass der Preis von einem New Yorker Bibliothekssystem gewonnen wurde. Das Library Journal titelt in seiner Ausgabe vom 15. Juni: „The Politics of Excellence“. Der Preis ist mit 10.000 USD dotiert.
