Die American Library Association (ALA) hat eine Studie zum Einsatz neuer Technologien in Öffentlichen Bibliotheken herausgegeben: „Libraries Connect Communities 3: Public Library Funding & Technology Access Study 2008-2009“.

Im Mittelpunkt stehen die Auswirkungen der Finanzkrise auf die Technik-Ausstattung der Bibliotheken. “The public library community needs new models for deploying and managing public access technology—especially around broad-band. Increasing broadband at the front door may not always provide significant increases at the workstation,” sagte Charles McClure der Direktor des Florida State University’s Information Insti-tute.

Die Studie wurde von ALA and der Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation finanziert.
